Dr. Schwitzer has been actively engaged in scientific research and innovation for many years, with a particular focus on aesthetic plastic surgery. Committed to education and discovery, he applies an inquisitive, analytical approach to advancing the field and developing solutions to the challenges of modern plastic surgery.
His passion for research began early. While still in high school, he was accepted into the prestigious New York Academy of Sciences’ Science Research Training Program, where he investigated recovery following vascular surgery and presented his findings at the 2005 SRTP Research Symposium.
During his undergraduate studies at Columbia University in New York City, Dr. Schwitzer participated in the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship at Columbia University Medical Center, focusing on urogenital tract development. He also conducted lymphoma research at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. These formative experiences strengthened his scientific foundation and nurtured the curiosity that continues to define his approach to plastic surgery today.
As a medical student at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Dr. Schwitzer completed a research fellowship in the Department of Vascular Surgery, studying dialysis access outcomes. His work earned him the Blue Ribbon Award at Mount Sinai’s Annual Research Symposium, recognizing one of the highest-scoring projects of the year.
He went on to complete a research fellowship at the world-renowned Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, where he studied patient-reported outcomes in cosmetic facial surgery as well as reconstructive outcomes for women following mastectomy. Continuing this focus during his residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC, his work on cosmetic facial surgery outcomes was recognized with the Best Paper Presentation award at the 19th Annual Rhinoplasty Symposium.
